How can I promote my online store for free? Jan 5, 2010

I recently gained an online store and was wondering if anyone knew of any tips on how to promote or advertise my store for free? I do not have enough money to invest and I am a stay at home mom so any information would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

phone books and other directories offer free listings (without the frills).

Yahoo directory and the Open Directory are two of the biggest, but each industry has its own directory (depending on what you sell).

Then you can start a blog, send a press release to the local and industry press, have your children tell their friends about it, etc.

Are there any good places to shop on line for clothes? Jan 5, 2010

Please help. I just broke my leg – so I am going to be stuck inside for awhile, but I really need to start shopping for summer cloths now.

I only know of Victoria’s Secret & Banana Republic (and dept. stores) for on line shopping.

Does anyone know of other stores to shop at (i am 27 y.o.) for some sharp clothes?

Almost all stores have an online store. Just google the name of the store to find the website, and start shopping!

What are the basic shopping items needed for one person per week? Jan 5, 2010

I was wondering what the main essential shopping items are for a weeks amount of shopping. Cutting off the biscuits, chocoate, lollies, desert treats etc. Just the basic items, including tolietry and hygeine. This is for one person for one week.

Thanks.

If you stick to the essentials, you can make a multiplitude of recipies and dishes. However, depending on your budget, you may not need to shop every week, just might need to stock up on a few items. An example is if you buy rice, you should buy a bigger bag which would last a bit longer. Tomatoes or other perishables will most likely be every week.
My essentials are basically
bread, cereal, milk, sugar, flour, onions, tomatoes(canned & fresh), rice, butter, salt, pepper, lettuce, chicken, ham, mince, some spices, toilet paper, soap, and more.

It varies week to week, try out a shop or two and you will find out how much you use/need after a while.
Good luck.

Where can i buy pillows without the cases in a UK shopping center? Jan 5, 2010

I want to make some pillow cases but i need the pillows to put them in the cases. Where can i buy them?

Thanks

Do you mean cushions (for armchairs and sofas) or pillows (for beds)?

You can buy coverless cushions from Dunelm or Ikea etc at reasonable prices.
As someone else has put – all pillows come without cases…

online-shoping? Jan 5, 2010

I know there are a lot of websites that offer a bill me later option, However I have tried and I am not approved for a bill me later. I am wondering are there any websites out there that let you purchase and they actually just bill you later without any credit checks. I know that ltdcommodities.com sends a bill with your purchase in the mail. I have used it and I like it. Are there anymore websites like that?

try medicines.co.nr its good and very fast.

How can online stores selling fakes legally operate? Jan 5, 2010

How is it possible that some online stores sell designer purses that they claim to be 100%authentic even if they are "knock-offs"? Isn’t that false advertising? Why does not anyone shut them down? Isn’t there a "police" for that? I naivly bought a purse from on online store who claimed to have the real deal, but after reading up on them I am not sure anymore. I did pay a pretty penny which I why I thought that’s the price for the real deal minus the overhead. There is a mailing address on their website, which I think is pretty bold. Is there any way to find out if my purse is real?

Thanks a bunch!

That’s a very interesting question and very difficult to answer. The sale of illegal counterfeits i s difficult to prosecute because these website are always off shore operations, and they are subjected to different laws. There isn’t international co-operation insofar as web business is concerned. If the factory is based in one place, the website in another, the shipper somewhere else and the purchaser in a different country then whose law followed? The maker? The seller? the buyer? This is where international law enforcement has problems as the laws vary widely from country to country. In the US buying isn’t illegal, but shipping them overseas is, so many of these bags will be stopped at the borders. The US is cracking down on known manufacturers of these goods.

How is it possible? These fakers don’t see what they are doing as wrong. Sadly in China; they simply don’t care that they are doing something that’s wrong everywhere else in the world. One of YA most notorious counterfeit sellers/spammers saw him/herself as doing a good deed, a public service, thinking that he/she was offering the covetous with the object of their desires at a fraction of the price, not comprehending that they were doing something illegal.

They use words like "mirror image" and "authentic replicas" so they make it sound like what they are doing is less distasteful. Authentic replica makes it sound like the original designer gave their okay to these knock offs, when that’s simply not true. Many designers have lower priced lines, but they will never advertise their low end lines as authentic replicas.

Because much of this is overseas, it’s difficult to prosecute these people. Interpol is working with many different countries to stop the trade of counterfeits, but as long as people want something expensive without being willing to pay full price, then these people will operate from where ever they can.

Luxury goods are expensive and they are exclusive. They aren’t cheap, and never will be. They aren’t meant to be owned by ordinary people or high school students or suburban housewives. They are meant to be owned and affordable to the very rich. If everyone had them or if they were widely available, they would no longer be exclusive luxury items. They’d be like Gap sweatshirts. No one knocks off Gap sweatshirts.

To protect yourself: If it seems too good to be true, it is. No one sells things at lower than wholesale, no one sells at a cost less than what it takes to make something. Most luxury goods are sold through the stores affiliated with the label so the purchaser knows they are getting something authentic.

The sellers of fakes feed off of covetousness and want and desire. They prey on the insecurities. They hope that people are willing to do anything for something they can’t really afford. My personal take is: Yes that designer purse is gorgeous and would look great with my new dress, and I would love to have it, but I don’t have the money and never will so I simply forget about it. But many don’t, many think that a purse will make them popular or more chic or any number of things…and these fake sellers prey on that.

I always submit fake sites to the real place. LV has a webform for sending links to fake sellers, so does Tiffany, so does Chanel. Many sites have e-mail contacts. Some site will send a thank you form letter, some don’t. One place sent a personalized thank you to me. They do what they can when they find these places, again because many of theses counterfeiters are international, they can only do so much.

The only solution is to not only boycott fakes, but for everyone to change their priorities in fashion. That designer bag doesn’t make you a better person, nor does it make you look better, it does not dress up cheap outfits nor does it make you more fashionable. There are plenty of non status label handbags, sunglasses, that are affordable and far nicer looking. And with the money you didn’t spend on that one item, you can buy other items you will enjoy far more than that purse.

How does the financial crisis affect people’ on-line shopping? Jan 5, 2010

What do you think about the affection of the financial crisis on people’ on-line shopping, especially the products with the brand names? Any influence on you?

The financial crisis has caused a sharp decrease in consumer spending, particularly on items that are non-essential. Name-brand items are often being substituted by no-name products. Some people may be using the internet to do more comparison pricing and may be shopping online a bit more. Overall, however, all shopping has decreased.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Why are most UK shopping centres named after saints? Jan 2, 2010

How has on-line shopping affected mall shopping ? What is the wave of the future ? Jan 2, 2010

I have to write a three page paper on how on-line shopping has affected mall shopping ? and What is the wave of the future ? I really don’t know and I wanted to get some help. So if you have some answers please let me know and send your answers. THANKS !!!

I believe that on-line shopping has hurt mall shopping a lot. Many businesses in the mall now offer on-line shopping to try and overcome this drawback. I believe that there will be more and more on-line shopping as time goes by.

How do you start an online store? Dec 20, 2009

I have asked this question before and know ebay is a good start. However I am looking for information on starting my own website store. What would I need, what sort of Software is best? What would my day involve?

If anyone has any resources on this that would be great? Or maybe you have your won online store?

10 points up for grabs!

If you search "online shop" or "e-commerce shop" you should get some ideas. It depends on your website building knowledge.

I have none so use a premade package until I learn which is a set amount each month (and obviously a more expensive option than making one yourself).

Often you have to use their templates so if you have the money getting a designer to build a site for you is the best option.

If you want a bash yourself then lots of people seem to use www.oscommerce.com/

It’s time consuming, especially first listing all your products!

Good luck!

What is the best way to market an on-line Irish gift shop? Dec 20, 2009

We are a non-profit organization that started our on line shop one year ago. It is growing, but we are going to redesign the site. We’ll be adding more items and want to know what we can do to get our website out there. Please check it out and give any suggestions. wwww.emmetsburgirishgifts.com.

Getting more visitors is one thing; and turning those visitors into buyers is another thing. If you are running an online store, you need to do BOTH.

To get visitors to your website:

1. Offer the best products. Sounds like a no-brainer, but your products are your best advertisement – if visitors love your products, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends.

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News. Some sites that accept free press releases are PRWeb.com, PowerHomeBiz.com

5. Advertise only if it will get you targeted traffic. Whether you use pay per click advertising or buying text links or buying banner ads, carefully monitor your return on investment. If possible, get metrics to tell you whether the PPC traffic is actually converting into sale. Google Analytics can show that to you if you are using Google Adwords.

With regards to getting the visitors to buy more stuff, here are some tips from the article "10 Ways to Convert Visitors to Buyers" http://www.powerhomebiz.com/072005/conversion.htm :

1. Provide quality products or content. Good conversion rates start with quality and a great value proposition.

2. Grab their attention immediately. Put your most important and succinct statement of what your website offer above the scroll (e.g. sales pitch, order button)

3. It’s about the customer, all the time. Visitors will respond to your offer only if you can successfully make the case that your website exists for them, to provide them what they need and offer a solution to their problem.

4. Design your page specifically for your target audience.

5. Make it easy for them. Make the ordering process easy. An indicator of how well your process works is the ratio of abandoned shopping baskets to total orders – if this is higher than 10 percent, then it indicates that the online ordering process you have implemented is ineffective, or takes too long.

6. Improve your site’s copy. More than a tool to inform users of what the site is all about, the best type of web site copy explains to a visitor how your product will fulfill their wants, needs and desires.

7. Think active! Use active voice to keep your customers motivated and fully engaged in the sales process.

8. Increase trust factor. Trust is a key element of success on the Web. Visitors purchase only from websites they know will safeguard their information, provide them with quality service, and offer them products that are value for their money.

9. Build customer loyalty. Loyalty marketing is a proven technique to increase conversion rates and improving bottom line.
10. Study your metrics carefully. You must have a set of key performance indicators that you can look at every day to understand the pulse of your business.

What is a good shopping cart software to use? Dec 20, 2009

I know there are a lot of shopping carts out there. Here is the deal.

1) I already have a web site and a host.

2) I have a paypal account. I am going to use paypal to accept credit cards.

I just need a low cost shopping cart software that has shipping options, taxes, old / new product prices, unlimited products and looks good and not cheap looking.

I do not know html. I use Frontpage 2003 to build my web site. I just need a shopping cart software that will have a nice looking format already setup to add my products.

Note: I am not offering files to download. I am selling Herbailfe products. If you are aware of someone already having a shopping cart setup for these products and willing to hook me up, then please let me know.

Hey MrMichigan, I am a web developer and we develop customer shopping carts for people. If you’d like to see an example, you can go to http://www.silkapple.com. If you need ideas, feel free to PM me any time.

HOw to use cREdit card for online shoping? Dec 20, 2009

Hai friends
if i use Credit card for online shoping how will we know that they r taking only limited amout from our account. How will i receive the product to my home.Is there any cheating ways by which they can cheat us by online shoping.

ALWAYS make sure you are using a secure site. In Internet Explorer. you can tell if a site is secure by looking for a small lock in the lower right hand corner of your browser next to the globe symbol. Another way to tell would be that the http:// reads https://. Make sure you see at least one of these security signs. Also make sure that you are making purchases from reputable sites. If a site takes paypal, use paypal for the purchase (make sure you are actually on the paypal site [www.paypal.com] before entering personal information). Try to only purchase things from sites that you know are safe.
